Backup Reseller FAQs

What is the online backup reseller program?

Many of our customers and others see an opportunity to make money by selling next-generation offsite backup services, so we offer an authorized reseller program in which these individuals and companies can easily offer our offsite backup solution under their own name.

What are the main benefits?

Generate new revenue and offer a proven service without any investment in a backup infrastructure, software licensing, hardware and the time to troubleshoot, upgrade and support such a solution.

Can I offer your service in my own name?

Absolutely. Our reseller program allows you to customize the backup software with your company or product name, logo, branding, etc. so that it appears as if the service is yours, yet it takes advantage of our proven software and ready-made infrastructure.

Can I set my own pricing?

Yes. With our Advanced Reseller Program you can create your own custom backup plans and set your own pricing.

How do customers sign up for service?

Sign up is straightforward, and follows our free trial lifecycle. In order to try the software, a potential customer simply signs up online and downloads the backup software. At the end of the free trial, the user is prompted to input a credit card number to continue using the backup service.

Do I need a website for this?

Many of our resellers do have a website and so can easily put sign up links on their site so potential customers can register, download and install the software. If you do not have a website, we will provide you with a web page where you can send customers to sign up.

How do I get credit for the customers I sign up?

When you become an authorized reseller, we will create custom download links that are unique to you. When a user signs up for service using your unique links, they will automatically be assigned to your "community" so you can track and manage your customer accounts.

Is this the same as using cookies or inputting a special code during sign up to give me credit for customers?

No. Generating custom installer links is a far more advanced and accurate way of ensuring you get credit for your customers.

How is billing handled?

If you have the ability to process credit cards or want to bill customers directly, you can do that with the Advanced Backup Reseller Program. In that case, we will send you one bill per month for all your customers that you have signed up for service. If you do not have the ability to process credit cards, we can handle the billing for you with our Standard Reseller Program.

I've researched backup reseller programs and most seem to require that I wholesale storage from them in advance, buy their equipment, license software or pay yearly fees. What do I have to buy from you?

Nothing. The NetMass reseller program does not require the typical fees common to other programs. With our system, you owe us nothing at all for your customers if you are a Standard Reseller, and you pay only for the customers that sign up for paid service when you are an Advanced Reseller. There is a small, one-time registration fee.

So I don't have to buy any servers, any software, nothing in order to get started?

That is correct. We operate on the software-as-a-service model with a turn-key approach. As a Standard Reseller, you pay us nothing even as you sign up customers. We mail you checks.

Do I need to have an established customer base?

It can help to have current customers to market the backup service to. However, many of our resellers have found profitable niches (either in their geographic area, or a vertical such as lawyers, dentists, etc.) and they have had success that way. Some effort and initiative are required if you do not have a captive customer base.

I know very little about backup technologies. Would I make a good reseller?

Our ideal reseller is someone who is reasonably comfortable around computers, and can, if necessary, explain the online backup process to potential customers. However, some of our resellers are very good marketers who are not particularly tech savvy. Since this describes you, the good news is you do not need to worry about building and maintaining a backup infrastructure (we do all that), so you can concetrate on bringing on customers. Another plus is that our basic PC/file server backup software is easy enough for most users to install and use by themselves.

I want to set my own pricing for backup, but how much should I charge?

Our Advanced Reseller Program allows you to set your own pricing and how much you charge is entirely up to you. For most of our resellers it typically depends on what kind of service or value-added they provide.

I want to give the service away to promote my business. Can I?

Yes, but keep in mind you will receive a bill from us for all of your customers that are using the service beyond the free trial period.
